Die Aids-Aktionsgruppe(n) ACT UP feiern 25 Geburtstag: am 24. März 1987 – vor 25 Jahren – fand die erste ACT UP – Demonstration in New York statt. Aids-Aktivisten legten den Verkehr auf der Wall Street vor der New Yorker Börse lahm, um gegen hohe Preise für Aids-Medikamente und schleppende Zulassungsverfahren für neue Substanzen zu protestieren. Einige ACT UP – Aktivisten drangen bis in den Börsensaal (“das Parkett”) vor.
ACT UP begeht das 25-jährige Bestehen stilecht – mit einer Demonstration: ACT UP und Occupy Wall Street demonstrieren am 25. April 2012 ab 11:00 Uhr (Ortszeit) gemeinsam in New York für ein Ende der Aids-Finanzkrise. Dazu fordern sie eine Finanztransaktionssteuer, deren Einnahmen u.a. der Aids-Bekämpfung zugute kommen sollen:
„ACT UP is calling for a small tax (0.05%) on Wall Street transactions and speculative trades in order to raise the money needed to end the global AIDS epidemic and provide universal healthcare in the US.“
„AIDS has already claimed over 30 million lives. ACT UP is calling for an FST [Financial Speculation Tax; d.Verf.] to help raise the money needed to close the gap in access to life-saving HIV treatment, and to END THE AIDS CRISIS.“
„It’s time for effective healthcare to be made available to everyone — to the 99%, not just the 1%.“
Anfang April hatte einer der Gründer von ACT UP, der US-Autor und Aktivist Larry Kramer, der Aids-Aktionsgruppe ACT UP zum 25. Geburtstag gratuliert – mit kritischen Anmerkungen zum Schweigen der Schwulen.
